West Loop - Chicago Restaurant packs in extroverted foodies.Dining in Chicago…Avec…
On Chicago’s West Loop, Avec attracts an ultra social crowd. The American-English translation for the French preposition, ‘avec’ means with…as in, “Who are you dining with…?” Amid the ultra-intimate confines of this cedar dominated chamber, Mediterranean victuals generally trigger a gastronomical event.
Recent standouts were the Medjool dates stuffed with chorizo, smoked bacon and piquillo pepper-tomato sauce; an ever so succulent, braised pork shoulder with garlic sausage, accompanied with summer sausage. For vegetarians, the asparagus crostini splayed over red bean ‘hummus’ and arugula assures satiation.
To some, Avec is known for its extensive wine list, refined petit-plates, and an ever-evolving menu of finger licking offerings. (For individuals with serious appetites, large plates fill the void). But, according to the John Beard Foundation, this top Chicago restaurant’s executive chef, Koren Grieveson is the Great Lakes nominee for the “Best Chef of 2009.”
