Slurping is in vogue in Chicago’s River North, as the new opening date of executive chef Takashi Yagihasi’s Slurping Turtle continues to countdown to a date “sometime” in November. There’s also speculation that bibs are the next fashion cover story in the Chicago neighborhood, as moderate drooling, dribbling and other salivary behaviors are not entirely frowned upon at the much anticipated Chicago restaurant.
Slurping Turtle is due to open in November.
In Japan, turtles emblemize a sign of fortune and longevity.
But all style trends aside, the Slurping Turtle is not a novice restaurant concept. Imported from Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood, Mr. Takashi is known for his way with Japanese noodle dishes, dumplings, Miso soup, sashimi and other Japanese favorites. In fact, the James Beard Foundation awarded Mr. Takashi “Best chef of the Midwest.”
Would you wear a bib at a Chicago restaurant if it were in fashion?
