Last Call for Nat'l Burger Month in Chicago

As beef prices reach a fever pitch in the U.S., many restaurants in Chicago have been quietly celebrating burger month. And for one Chicago restaurant, a specially priced angus beef sandwich winds down National Burger Month. A $3 dollar burger satifies the omnivore looking to appease their appetite and wallet.

Vacationing In Chicago, Like a Resident

Some Summer Festivals Afford Free Fun
This year, Chicago’s Millennium Park celebrates 10 years,
Aside from an impressive skyline and 16 miles of lakefront recreation, in Chicago free summer festivals abound. With the right timing, vacationers have an opportunity to experience Chicago like a resident. From June thru August,  Grant Park beckons the most popular free summer events, spanning Millennium Park, the Perillo Band Shell to the Spirit of Music Garden.
The Chicago Blues Festival
The Chicago Blues Festival has been a fixture in Grant Park for 31 years. At the city’s annual Blues Festival, an extensive line up transpires across four different stages. The Chicago Blues Festival, originated in honor of Muddy Waters—upholds the tradition of featuring performances from an all star line up, including headliners, such as Grammy® Award winning trio Carolina Chocolate Drops, Bettye LaVette and  Dr. John to name a few.

Gold Coast Art Fair 
 Next in the annual line up of free events in Chicago is a nationally acclaimed art festival.  Celebrating its 57th year, the Gold Coast Art Fair continues to be one of the leading 30-person juried art events in the US. At Butler’s Field in Grant Park, from June 21  - 22, 2014 from 10 AM to 6 PM.

Taste of Chicago 
Celebrating 34-years strong, the Taste of Chicago has recently undergone a moderate reconstruction. In the past, the food focused event took place over the 4th of July. This year, the food bonanza starts July 9, running through July 13th, 2014. 
Where: With free admission, the Taste of Chicago spans Grant Park, from Monroe to Balboa on Columbus Drive. Food tickets are sold at the entrance and other designated sites.

Chicago Bakery Awards Dessert Under Special Terms 


Sharp cheddar cheese, granny smith apples, crisp romaine lettuce, fresh roma tomatoes, and a Dinkel’s pretzel roll pile atop piece of breaded pork schnitzel (from Paulina Meat Market).Chicago pastry shop, Dinkel’s Bakery & Café celebrates 92-year anniversary, doling out dessert to certain customers. For the month of October, patrons who make a special purchase and say the right German pass code receive a complimentary slice of pumpkin pie.

What’s the deal: What’s the deal: Dinkel’s Bakery & Café, a family owned business honors it customers with a special offer for the month of October 2013. Qualifying for a free slice of pumpkin pie entails buying one of the bakeries sandwiches, made of its fresh baked bread and saying delicious, but in German.

Special sandwich In honor of Oktoberfest and the Dinkel’s German roots, the pork schnitzel sandwich, as seen in the photo, also qualifies for a free slice of pumpkin pie with the same pass code. ($7.95).

How to score the free dessert: Say Kostlich (pronounced  köst‧lich, for a free slice of pumpkin pie. 

Chicago Best Restaurants recommends: Before arriving at Dinkel’s, be sure to practice the pass code three times, in the voice of Colonel Wilhelm Klink of Hogan’s Hero’s.
